It’s the last bit of glorious weather here, so I am doing a post-and-run so that I can spend the time outside. Astrantia is still flowering in October. Its pale colours are a contrast with the dark astrantia flowers of this post.

Are these pallid flowers due to the lateness of the season, or is this a different variety from the one in the linked photograph?

A different variety, Steve. There are whites, pinks and dark reds, so quite a good range of colours for the garden. I’d love to have them all!

What’s stopping you from having them all?

Same things as always – space (mostly) and yet more money for plants. (The second one isn’t really a problem, as my Hubby would confirm… π )

I’ve finally replanted my two Astrantia, one white, one dark red, to a spot where they hopefully won’t be smothered by anything else. Third move so let’s hope this is the final one!

That has been a problem for my astrantias too – they are having to compete with a geranium. The geranium will be moved… π

This is really a gorgeous flower Ann! Terrific photography too! Just this morning it has gotten a little chilly here so am anticipating cooler days.

Thank you! (Is it you, Syd? Still getting ‘Anonymous’ here! They are great flowers to photograph – makes me want to grow some of the other colours.
Warm here today, more than normal, but the temperature will drop down low next week. Might be a bit of a shock to the system! π

I knew these looked familiar, even though I didn’t remember the name. Then I looked at your linked photo, and recognized them. A mass of them in mixed colors would be beautiful. Despite my love of white flowers, I’d be willing to make room for some of the other colors!

Me too – they would look lovely in a mix of the whites, pinks and reds that are available. Maybe I need an area just for astrantias, hehe!

Such an interesting color. At first I thought you were photographing flowers in the dark. π

LOL, Steve, sometimes that’s not too far off what I’m doing. There are areas of the garden that lose any sunshine much more quickly than others and can feel a bit dark by the time I’m photographing flowers there. (And I do like pale flowers against a dark background.)

Still flowering? Is this a climate change sign of things to come?

They can keep flowering for a long time if you deadhead them…but I usually forget until it’s too late!
