January is the time when it gets cold here. The temperature drops around the time of the New Year and we may get frosts. That’s a good time for me to get out in the garden with my camera, especially if there’s a bit of sunshine to add sparkle to those frozen crystals.
There can be a certain freshness to these days…times when the sun shines and it is cold, clear, and bright. It’s the time when the year does feel new and ready for plans for the spring and summer to come. (Gardeners are always looking ahead.) It’s a time for hope and possibilities, and I hope that whatever you plan for the coming year will bring good results. I wish you a very happy New Year!
Looks like you got the double whammy of backlighting and frost. That’s a good way to close out the year. Happy imminent 2026.

It always intrigues me, the way some winter images can seem so warm; the combination of color and frost certainly is pleasing. I hope your new year also is filled with warmth, and plenty of cool images!

I was looking at some drone footage on the BBC of landscapes compared in the different seasons and was struck by how warm the yellow-y low winter light looks compared to summer light. It’s very deceptive! I wish you a new year filled with happiness and lots more lovely wildflower photography – which will make your readers very happy too!

I did not realize I had to click on the title. That made a huge difference on the perspective and appreciation. I wish I could flip back and forth like that so rapidly it would have the effect of a .gif. Animated. 🦋

It frustrates me that the WordPress Reader doesn’t show the whole image…maybe it’s something they’ll improve in future. 🙂

A very nice picture, fancy sugared leaves. In my town the wind is generally driving the ice crystals like needles. Best wishes for the New Year.

Oh, that does sound cold and uncomfortable! Luckily the wind is usually fairly gentle around here and we don’t often get it cold enough for the frost to last long either. I hope that 2026 is a very happy year for you!

Thank you for the kind comment! Early January looks (from the forecast) like it will be quite wintry, so I think there may be some chilly mornings outside with the camera…brr! I wish you a very happy new Year and all the best for 2026.
