Scabiosa atropurpurea flowers (scabious 'Chile Black')

(Almost) Silent Sunday: A Late-Summer Memory

NB: A note for WordPress Reader users – you need to click on the title of the post again to come out of the reader and go to the post itself. This allows you to see the whole of the top photograph. (Otherwise you may see just a tiny section!)

We have a visitor staying with us at the moment, so this is a bit of a quick post-and-run! The photo is a re-post of Scabious ‘Chile Black’, photographed in 2020. For a few years we had this lovely plant self-seeding around the garden but there are only one or two left now. I think it might be time to either carefully collect some seed for sowing next year, or to buy a new packet of seed. I miss seeing these dark little flower heads all around the garden!

  1. That’s an interesting name for a flower that looks more like cranberry to me. In fact, it looks as though you might have placed your stems in a cranberry glass vase; the combination is quite lovely.

    1. Agreed, Linda – like so many flowers labelled ‘black’, it’s really a very dark shade of red. The ‘vase’ is actually a small glass, probably meant as a shot glass. I have a collection of small glasses and similar bits and pieces that I like to use for small flowers. 🙂
