It feels as if Christmas has sneaked up on me quietly this year. That’s partly because the unusually mild weather has kept me busy in the garden, where it still feels like late autumn rather than the early days of winter. It’s easy to lose track of ‘calendar time’ when you’re immersed in the rhythms of the natural world.
But here it is, suddenly, Christmas in all its twinkling lights and glitzy decorations (which, by being not much of a shopper, I have largely missed ’til now). Our Christmases here are peaceful and easygoing – we’ve always taken a no-stress approach to this time of year. I hope that Christmas is a relaxed and happy time for you too and that, however you choose to spend it, it’s a time of good cheer and contentment. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Merry Christmas to you, too! Your photo is perfect for the season, and the holiday.

I hope you have a lovely time at Christmas, Sam! I try to keep a frosty picture or two for Christmas and New Year. (So hoping that there will be some frost so that I can take pictures for next year!)

Despite the frosty wafers in the picture, may you stay warm through the winter that officially begins less than a day from now.

We’re lucky here, in that the winters are usually not bad (we were busy in the garden yesterday, but a bit too wet today). Further north is much colder and gets a lot more snow than we do. I hope that you enjoy the festive season! 🙂

It has been mild but it is very wet and muddy out there. Well done for soldiering on in the garden. I prefer to close my eyes to the razzmatazz of Christmas in the weeks running up to it. But yesterday I accepted it is quite near now and put a tree up. But once the children are long grown up, it does seem a bit pointless decorating it by yourself.
Merry Christmas to you Ann.

We don’t really get involved with the Christmas razzmatazz either. We don’t have children, so Christmas has always been a relaxed and fairly quiet affair for us. (A chance to ignore the demands of the world and enjoy some time for ourselves.) I hope that your Christmas is a very happy one!

Look at that! Nature gifted you with a bit of frost to photograph. I hope your season’s as lovely as your photo. I never bake until close to Christmas due to my propensity to eat up what comes out of the oven, but today and tomorrow are the days for baking and sharing the sugary loot — the day’s almost here!

I’m all for having a relaxed and quiet time, but suspect it is going to be anything like that in my house this year. The first of many firsts, so I can understand my daughter not wanting me to be on my own. The razzmatazz has been rather more unbearable this year.
I have managed to do a bit of clearing in the garden, though the garden waste bin is full once more so the rest of the pruning of the fuchsias and the hydrangea will have to wait a while. Heavy rain and recent winds have kept me indoors rather more than I like. But we are on the up now. And seeing all my spring bulbs emerging from the rain-soaked soggy soil is uplifting. I just hope they manage to survive the rest of the winter!

I had missed the post with your sad news and I’m very sorry to hear of your loss. I’m glad that your daughter has decided not to let you be on your own, but I imagine it will still be a very difficult time for you. It’s very understandable that the razzamatazz is hard to bear, so I hope you can find some peace and calm despite it. You have my sympathy and best wishes…and a gentle virtual hug.
