It’s a post-and-run this week because we’re getting ready for work to start tomorrow to install our new heating system. There’s a slight feeling of chaos around here right now – hopefully it will be replaced by a good feeling of warmth soon! 🙂 (And the flower is Cosmos ‘Seashells’.)
I’d take Cosmos over chaos any day. On the other hand, while the Cosmos’s beauty might warm your heart, it’s not going to do much for your body — that new heating system will do a far better job!

It’s getting colder here, so we’re really looking forward to having the new system (air-source heat pump) working. There has been a lot of work with insulation and moving things around in preparation. It’s going to be an interesting week!

Pretty cosmos with a nice name! I hope your heating system project goes really well, Ann.

Thanks Liz! 🙂 It will probably be the last big thing we have to do here. Even just all the insulation we’ve put into the house this year should make a difference and then the new system will be a lot more efficient than the old one. (After this I intend to concentrate on the garden for a while…need to get some work done there before winter sets in.)

HHH (Happy home heating).
As for the flower’s genus name, USA Extension Services notes that it “was derived from the Greek word ‘kosmos’, which means order, harmony, or the world. Mexican priests cultivated the flower and named it Cosmos because of the evenly placed and orderly petals.”

Thanks Steve – hopefully I’ll be able to confirm that we’re much warmer in next Sunday’s post!

That’s a lovely Cosmos. Is it a tall one? Good luck with the installation, hope it all goes smoothly.

It was about 3ft tall, if I remember right. (It was growing in an area where it had lots of competition from some Japanese anemones, so maybe it could get taller in a better situation.) Thanks for the good wishes! 🙂
