Oranges and Lemons: Daffodils

Rich oranges and lemon-yellows make these daffodils a brilliant and delightful welcome to spring. The flowers in these photographs are growing on a wide, grassy bank in front of the houses here and they’re a sight I look forward to every year. (And a lovely greeting to everyone who passes by on their way into the town.)

This year I think we all need as much optimism and good cheer as we can find while our minds are full of worries about the coronavirus. I’ve certainly felt lucky over the past few days to be able to escape into the garden and enjoy the peace and calm of being surrounded by the plants I’m working with.

The emerging flowers, new spring growth, and the increasing warmth of the sun are a comfort and allow some respite from the serious side of life. A small thing, maybe, but anything that increases our well-being right now must be good.

The daffodils seem to be bringing their own little bit of sunshine and exuberance to help lift our spirits – right when we need it.

All these colours sing when in they’re in unison 🙂 Good UK-NZ synchronization!

    1. I’m glad they brought you a little bit of joy! 🙂 We have a few miniature daffs – they’re very sweet and stand up to the wind better than the big ones.

    1. I think that it would be a bit too hot for them with you…they soon go over if the weather gets warm early here. But they are such a cheering sight to see. 🙂

  6. Such vibrant colors! I’ve always thought of these as white, or pale yellow, or perhaps a deeper yellow. These would qualify as show-stoppers, for sure. I can’t imagine not smiling if I came across a drift of them!

    1. I have mostly white and a paler yellow in my own garden (which works really well with my neighbour’s yellow forsythia – a happy ‘accident’) but there are lots of these brighter-coloured daffodils growing just opposite our house. Lucky us! 🙂

      1. I almost cried when I saw these. Being an April baby, daffodils are my favourite flowers ever. We need this colour in our lives right now and the reminder that brighter times will come.
